Martin Copeland
London,UK
|
topic: Workshop - Air Service Development, Strategic Planning, and Airline Business Case Development in the Caribbean
Martin Copeland is President of IKEW at Burlington UK Ltd, which is a consulting company based in London England, specializing in aviation
and tourism support services.
"Air services to the Caribbean are essential for the economic wellbeing of the islands. How do airlines decide on where they will fly, what will
be their optimal flight frequency, which type of aircraft should they operate, what time of the day for the flights, what level of seasonal service?
How does hub airport connectivity fit into the equation?
My island has the same number and quality of attractions as well as business activity as another island, that has air services that I don't have.
Why is this?
Learn in Martin's session, what drives these decisions, what is included in the decision-making process and how you might approach the issue with
airlines
Martin is an economist by education and former employee of two international airlines, one airport of over
16 million annual passengers, Transport Canada and an international consulting company. In 2009 he moved to London where he established
IKEW at Burlington UK Ltd providing strategic support services for airports, airlines and tourism organizations throughout the world including
many clients in the Caribbean. The latter has included the Princess Juliana International Airport Authority (SXM Airport), the St. Maarten
Hospitality & Trade Association, WINAIR, Puerto Rico Tourism Company, Surinam Airways, BVI Tourism Board,
BVI Airport Authority, Grenada Airports Authority and Guyana Tourism.
Martin's work in the Caribbean has included projects covering the following subjects:
- Air service development proposals & business cases for airlines
- Strategic business plans
- Air access studies
- Airfare analysis
- Visitor arrivals forecasting
- Startup airline business plans
- Marketing plans
- Route analysis for airlines
- Financial analysis
- Airport Retail and Food & Beverage strategies
- Survey research questionnaire design
- Statistical analysis for Annual, Quarterly & Monthly reports
- Airport Hub analysis & strategies
- US Preclearance feasibility study
- Airport fee analysis
- Airport Quick scan
In his work within the Caribbean his scope of any
analysis has gone beyond the clients he has been working for because of the interdependency of islands throughout the Caribbean.
His work with two international airlines involved airfare strategies, Asia & South America product marketing management, strategic planning,
code-sharing strategizing & negotiations, commercial agreements and tourism marketing budget negotiations with a federal government.
With the Vancouver International Airport Authority (YVR) he was responsible for marketing the airport to international airlines and was
successful in increasing the number of non-stop air routes between Vancouver and USA cities from 7 to 22 through his participation with
the government of Canada in negotiations with the USA. He also directed development of a 20-minute multimedia presentation on why YVR was a
better airport Hub than San Francisco or Los Angeles for travel between the USA and Asia. In this project he worked with American Airlines
staff in presenting this interactive video to travel agents and the trade throughout Eastern USA and Asia.
In the past he has been a speaker at the "State of The Tourism Industry Conference" of the Caribbean Tourism Organization. Martin is a
Canadian citizen, born in metropolitan Vancouver and received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of British Columbia.
